IT improves effectiveness of development aid

At Danish Management Group we believe that the combination of IT and development aid will help donor organisations to obtain better results for the same amount of money
On Thursday, 12 January the IT magazine ComON published an article about the use of IT to improve the effectiveness and the impact of development aid in developing countries.

Danish Management Group’s management believes that IT and development aid should go hand in hand and, therefore, it encourages donors to include technology already in the initial phase of the projects.

Frantz Longhi, Danish Management Group President, states: “We certainly reckon that the use of IT in development projects improves the effectiveness of development aid by 10%.” He continues “For a country like Denmark, which expends DKK 10 billions per year in development aid, this means an increase in effectiveness of at least DKK 1 billion”.

Danish Management Group Bangladesh makes possible for Danish Management Group to gather specific knowledge and tangible experiences about the current conditions for IT companies in developing countries. This is the reason why Danish Management Group has located much of the technological development at Metrocomia in Bangladesh.

“We provide advise to donor organisations regarding IT projects in developing countries and hence we must have practical experience within this field”, explains Frantz Longhi.

Danish Management Group has differentiated itself from the other Danish companies located in Bangladesh, because of not having transferred its own experts from Denmark to Dhaka. Danish Management Group’s management considers that it is a key factor to help local employees to feel directly responsible, so that they are prepared to assume their responsibilities.

Furthermore, Mr. Sanjib Ahmad, director of Danish Management Group Bangladesh, explained that open source has played a vital role in many of the company projects. Even though there is certain scepticism regarding open source because of being free of charge, Mr. Ahmad emphasised that it facilitates knowledge-sharing and knowledge-transfer, which have an enormous importance in developing countries.

In spite of the practical problems associated with running a company in a country as Bangladesh, Metrocomia Bangladesh has succeeded in making a profit since Danish Management Group took over it three years ago.
